This workshop is a perfect mix of bird photography, birding and wildlife viewing/photography.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is a vast and expansive area that stretches from the wilderness of the Pacific Coast to the rolling hills and mountains of the Cariboo Chilcotin region. The area is dotted with forest areas, hidden lakes, golden ranching plains and gorgeous mountain peaks.
It is an area rich with diverse bird, wildlife and landscape photo opportunities.
Springtime in the Chilcotin region comes alive with many species of resident birds returning to the area to nest. Species include four kinds of woodpeckers including pileated, downy and hairy as well as northern flickers, red breasted and red naped sapsuckers. Other species include common loon, mountain bluebird, rufous hummingbird, arctic tern, American white pelican, western tanager, steller's jay, blue jay, evening grosbeak, western tanager, common red poll, western meadowlark, magpie, bohemiem waxwing, yellow headed blackbird, Oregon juncos and more. Duck species include lesser scaup, buffle head, barrows golden eye and more.
Raptor species such as bald eagles, golden eagles, rough legged hawks, northern hawk owls, great gray owls, northern pygmy owls and great horned owls are also found in the area.
During our workshop we will be staying at Eagle Bear Lodge in the heart of the great Chilcotin range.
In addition to the great variety of birds we can sometimes spot coyotes, moose red fox, and black bears.

ITINERARY
Flight arrival to Williams Lake, BC Canada. A short flight from Vancouver Int Airport.
Pick up and drive to Eagle Bear Lodge (2.5 hours) driving over the Fraser River and over the mountains to our destination. Check in and discuss the week's plans and what to expect. Each person will be staying in a wood log cabin with heaters and a wood stove. Meals are served at the main lodge daily.
Internet available. Cell service is not available.
We will supply you with a full list of clothing and equipment requirements upon signing up.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING
Bring whichever camera body that you use, a backup is a good idea
Lenses to bring include for hand holding include, 100-400, 80-400, 150-600, 200-500, etc.
The varied focal length ranges of these zoom lenses will make your image making more enjoyable.
Minimum 500mm or 600mm lens, 800mm with tele-converter and/or a crop sensor body.
Tripod, binoculars.
At night photograph the milky way, aurora, northern lights, wide angle lens. Subject to availability.
Digital cards, back up hard drive and laptop - internet at the lodge. Hard drive.
Clothing and accessories:
The temperatures can be cool in the morning 4C and then warming up to 30C during the day.
Sunglasses, hat, jacket and layers. Light gloves for early morning shoots if your hands tend to get cold.
